Highfill Highlights

The Highfill Parks Advisory Committee met on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, to discuss upcoming events, park improvements, sponsorships, and future community activities.
The committee approved the April meeting minutes and opened the meeting for public comment. Members received positive feedback about the City’s first Springfest event and discussed ways to continue growing future events.
Freedom Fest Update – June 27, 2026
The committee reviewed plans for Freedom Fest, including:
• Vendor recruitment efforts
• Food truck participation
• DJ entertainment
• Inflatables and yard games
• Fireworks planned for approximately 9:00–9:30 p.m.
Current planning includes:
• Approximately five vendors signed up so far
• About eight food trucks contacted
• Vendor setup beginning at 3:00 p.m.
• Event activities beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Committee members encouraged additional craft, artisan, and sales vendors to register through the City website.
The committee also discussed:
• Free water availability during the event
• Face painting opportunities provided by local students earning AG service hours
• Possible fundraiser activities through Friends of Highfill
🤝 Sponsorships and Community Support
The committee announced that Friends of Highfill is now active and supporting community events.
Crossland Heavy Contractors committed to:
• Providing seven portable restrooms for Freedom Fest
• Making a monetary donation to support future park projects and events
The committee discussed recognizing sponsors through event signage.
📅 Additional Community Events
The committee reviewed upcoming community events, including:
• National Night Out — October 6, 2026, at 6:00 PM
• Fall Tree Giveaway — Date to be announced
• Holidays in the Park — December 5, 2026
Members also discussed coordinating holiday event details, including decorations, hot cocoa, and scheduling Santa appearances.
🚗 Park Maintenance and Improvements
The committee reviewed the completed parking lot expansion at the park. Members stated the project added additional parking capacity and improved event parking access.
The committee thanked the City’s Public Works Department for completing the project under budget.
Committee members also discussed:
• Returning soccer activities to the park area
• Addressing a hanging tree limb identified as a maintenance concern
💡 Future Community Activities
The committee discussed possible future activities for the community, including:
• Bingo nights
• Trivia events
• Karaoke in the park
Members also discussed purchasing a portable speaker and microphone system for future park programs and public announcements.
💰 Financial Review
The committee reviewed current financial reports and discussed event-related expenses, including:
• Springfest inflatable rentals
• Freedom Fest fireworks
• Future event budgeting
Members stated current funding remains sufficient for upcoming planned events.
📌 Upcoming Meeting
The committee scheduled a special meeting for Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. to finalize Freedom Fest planning.
The next regularly scheduled Parks Advisory Committee meeting remains scheduled for July 21, 2026.
