City Council Meetings

The City Council guides policies, budgets, and community projects in Highfill. Residents are encouraged to attend meetings and participate during Public Comment on any topic.

  • Total Members: 6 council members, 2 from each of 3 wards
  • Term Length: 2 years
  • Meeting Schedule: Regular meetings occur the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, Highfill City Hall
  • Agenda Posting: Agendas are posted at least 3 days prior
  • Special Meetings: May be called by the Mayor or three Aldermen with at least 2 hours’ notice

How to Attend:

  • In-Person: Sign in at the door and take a seat in the Council Chambers
  • Virtual: Attend via Zoom (link on the City Council page)
  • Public Comment: Sign in at the podium; the Mayor will call speakers by name

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission reviews development proposals, zoning requests, and subdivision plats. It also maintains the Comprehensive Plan and planning regulations to support responsible growth.

  • Members: 5
  • Eligibility: Must reside in Highfill
  • Appointments: Nominated by Mayor or Council member, appointed by City Council
  • Term Length: 5 years
  • Meetings: Regular meetings at City Council Chambers, Highfill City Hall

Public Participation:
Comments are accepted during Public Hearings for agenda items requiring input (e.g., rezonings).

Highfill Volunteer Fire Department Fundraisers

Support the Highfill Volunteer Fire Department through annual fundraising events:

  1. Annual Chili Supper & Dessert Auction – Spring event with chili and dessert auction
  2. Annual Chicken BBQ Fundraiser – Summer drive-through BBQ supporting essential firefighting gear

Funds help purchase:

  • Firefighter turnout gear and protective equipment
  • Fire hoses and nozzles
  • Rescue and emergency response tools
  • Medical response equipment

Free Tree Giveaways

Highfill is recognized as a Tree City USA community. Residents can receive free trees during spring and fall planting seasons. Events include guidance on tree planting and care.

Annual Community Clean-Up

Residents are invited to dispose of unwanted household items responsibly. Items typically accepted: small furniture, appliances, and general household junk. Certain items (hazardous materials, automotive parts, yard waste) are not accepted.
